My Tip: I am not certain to recommend to stay in the Red Light District called De Wallen, especially for family travellers. The listed hotels in Old Centre are located mainly in Dam and Spui as well as close to Amsterdam Central Railway Station, and not in Da Wallen.

The best way to get into the Grachtengordel is by tram. From Amsterdam Central Railway Station, find tram lines 1, 2 and 5. They are going to right through the middle of the Grachtengordel, cutting the western and the southern side of it in half. Notable stops include Koningsplein, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht and Leiden Square (Leidseplein).
