You can get Rich Pins set up in the following 5 steps:

2. Create your Pinterest Business Account
3. Verify your blog
4. Add metadata to your blog
5. Validate and apply for Rich Pins
*Before you set up a Pinterest business account, you need a blog or website.
Step 1: Create Your Blog
If you don’t have a blog yet, why don’t you make it? If you don’t have anywhere to send traffic from Pinterest yet, it’s a perfect time to get started. It is very easy to start a blog with Bluehost.

Step 2: Create a Pinterest Business Account
Go to Pinterest Business Account >> Scroll down to the bottom of the page >> Click ‘Sign up’ tab >> Create your Pinterest account.

You are not creating a personal but business account. If you are not certain about making it, you can transfer to a business account later.
However, a business account is necessary for setting up

Step 3: Fill Out Your Profile
You are starting a “New Business Account“. Fill out your Pinterest profile and write down your contact business name, contact name, email address, password and your username. Make sure that you write a description properly and include keywords that you want to be searched for as a business.
When I started Pinterest, I did not care about a keyword search on Pinterest and did not include the keywords to my profile. It was a mistake! Since I added them into my profile, pins and boards, I do not need to find people to follow me back anymore. They find me. You can save time for search.
No worries, do not be stressed about the setup. You can change the data later.
Some of the things you can pay attention to your profile:
- If your business is local, enter a city. If you are online only, or internationally active, you can leave it as blank.
- Add your blog URL – the link in your profile is the one “do-follow link” you get from Pinterest, so use it.
- Upload a clear, professional photo of you, your business logo or a product for your profile picture.
- Set up the featured boards to display on your profile (I could not make the featured boards before the verification of my blog, which I will discuss at the next section.)

Step 4: Verify Your Blog
Complete the Verification Process for your blog and so that Pinterest will recognise your blog and your posts that you pin. This is an important process but is a little complicated.
Go to your Pinterest account >> click Setting at the right top >> find Claim. Type your blog URL and click Confirm button.
Pinterest will provide you with a simple HTML code, that needs to be uploaded to your blog header as metadata. Pinterest then can “verify” your blog as the owner or manager of the account.
If you are unfamiliar with coding and where to paste header metadata, please find an expert and pay them to help you.
I did the verification by myself, just pasted the code on the header meta tag. If you use Genesis theme, go to Customising >> Theme Setting >> Header/Footer Script >> Paste the code on Header.
Once your blog is verified by Pinterest, they will let you know. It took me for 3 days. I did not receive an email from them but could notice its completion because my blog link was displayed with a hyperlink on my Pinterest profile!

If you are uncertain about Rich Pin, here is information from Pinterest.
Setting Rich Pins without installing Yoast and by using the Genesis Framework

There is much information about setting up Rich Pin by using the Yoast SEO plugin. However, I do not use Yoast and am not willing to install it because I use the Genesis theme.
If you use Yoast SEO, I have found a helpful article for it here.
Instead of Yoast SEO, I use Complete Open Graph plugin. It worked fine with my Genesis theme.
Note: You only need to validate and click apply for one link on your site to enable Rich Pins across your whole domain.
a). Verify Your Pinterest Account
If you haven’t verified your Pinterest account yet, you need to do so first at Pinterest here before you install Complete Open Graph plugin. Go to Step 4: Verify Your Blog above on this article.
b). Install ‘Complete Open Graph’ plugin

Go to Your WordPress >> Plugins >> Add New
Install and activate the Complete Open Graph plugin. No settings need to configure here at all.
Important: If you have installed any caching plugins, clear your cache before proceeding to the next.

You should then receive a message as:

It says that you will receive an email from Pinterest. I didn’t but have got rich pins!
Step 6: Create Pinterest Boards
Make some boards first by filling out the name of them. Ideally, 20 boards are preferred at least.
Use keywords of your niche on your board titles and descriptions to optimise for search on Pinterest. This makes people can find your boards. Keep using keywords for search engine optimization (SEO).
Step 7: Create Your Pins and Start Pinning
Create your pin and start pinning your pins on your boards. I use Canva to design pins, and the size of my pins is 587px by 1082px. Canva is extremely useful, and yet it is free for use. I use Tailwind and schedle when my pins are published.
When you create pins, make sure that the title and descriptions of your pins are optimized with relevant keywords of your business/niche.
Alternatively, repin the pins you like or other pinners’ relevant pins to your contents and save into your boards. Remind you that Pinterest does not like you repin spam or blocked websites. If you do, Pinterest gives a penalty in engagement. So make sure that your links are working properly.
Step 8: Start Following People
I make pins of my own for 80% and repin others for 20 % into my boards. In the beginning, it is good to show Pinterest that you help other pinners and create a variety on your boards. This is what Pinterest is, helping other people’s business and inspire others!
By following people, you receive a lot of suggestions to follow or add pins, people and brands based on your recent activity from Pinterest. This is called your home feed. This helps you to get information about your interest or contents without searching for them by yourself. You can save time.
Pinterest for business tips: In turn, if you follow someone’s entire profile, you are following all of their boards, including the contents which might not be relevant to yours (ex. their Birthday, Lunch, Diet or Cake boards). This will mess up your home feed.
Would you like to follow the influencers of your niche? That’s a really good idea. You can monitor how they create their content and develop their business. Implement their strategies into yours.

I explain how to find the influencers of your niche on Pinterest and at What is Pinterest? How does it Work with Your Blog? Read section 6 and 7.
Alternatively, in the beginning, you start zero followers, but why don’t you connect your Pinterest account to Facebook? Your Facebook friends will become your Pinterest followers.
My tip: In the beginning, you do not have many followers. Repin other people’s content and so that they will repin yours.
Step 9: How Many Pins Should I make a Day?
In the beginning, it took a while to make even one pin on Canva. It took a lot of my time to do! I also had to spend much time creating the contents of my blog. So, I added only one pin for one blog post each. But then I learnt that I should make at least 10 to 15 pins per day. Be active on Pinterest!
Then, your blog posts are more published and you create more pins in accordance. You get busy and will need the
Once you get some exposure by Pinterest, you start pinning your pins more than others’ pins.
