      Hi David
It’s a wonderful idea indeed. It is Summer. You can enjoy the beautiful Summer light on your way to Southampton until 9 pm. You could visit Windsor Castle and Windsor Great Park. Polesden Lacy and Hampton Court are one of my best favourite gardens in the south of England. Viator.com offers the airport private transfer and Windsor tour. With consideration to your arrival, the admission time for the entry could be tight. If you use public trains from the Heathrow, you can explore either at Woking or Reading. I spent a great time at RHS Garden Wisley from Woking. Reading is a small town but is clean, pretty and cosy. Sailing with Azamara for the European cruise from Southampton sounds truly great. Have a wonderful time. I am sure you will!
