Hi, this is a lot of great information! We are planning to go to the Lakes District right away when arriving in England. Is there any direct route without having to go into London first? Everything I find leads me to first take a bus or the tube into London before getting on a train out of the city….is this the only way? Thanks!

      Hi Elizabeth
In that case, you can get a flight to Manchester International Airport and head to Oxenholme Rail Station by train. The reason why you need to go to central London first from Heathrow or other airports near London is to catch a train from London Euston to go to Oxenholme Rail Station. This is the train to go to the North from London as far as I know. You will find breathtaking landscapes in the Lake District, especially in Summer.
